Programs offered:

Center-based Early Head Start/Early Intervention: Cody Gifford House uses a combination of Early Head Start and Early Intervention criteria to create a blueprint for equitable inclusion. Children enrolled in the program must be living in poverty or homeless as well as having severe disabilities or developmental delays. Combining these two programs allows us to provide a full day of instruction and services compared to traditional half-day Early Intervention programs.

Home-based Early Intervention: Our home-based services bring speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and special instruction directly to many additional children whose disabilities or therapeutic needs do not require the comprehensive intensity of center-based care.

EI Referral System

Boy pointing towards camera.

Designed to increase participation in Early Intervention (EI) services, our groundbreaking and scalable EI referral system continues to help families from historically marginalized communities access special education evaluation and services for their very young children. ABC’s expert service coordinators are in contact with parents from the moment a pediatrician suggests special education services might be needed right through to when they receive those services. By sticking with families throughout the process, ABC helps navigate the obstacles that often cause families with few resources to give up on submitting an Early Intervention application for their child with special needs.

Our Impact

100%

of children completed their Early Intervention evaluations when ABC was the evaluator, compared to 83% when another provider carried out the evaluation

100%

of children made progress towards their Individualized Family Service Plan goals

188%

increase in the number of children meeting or exceeding expectations in the language domain in the last program year
