Escape Room:

New York City Department of Education

Learning at home falls mainly on parents, so the Department of Education is providing information, activities and technical tools and support for parents. Constant school status updates are posted here, as well as information on how children will continue to remain in contact with their teachers, learn from their peers, receive graded assignments, take part in independent reading, and other subjects. If you are having technical difficulties at home and are not sure how to fix them, there are important pages within this website that will provide you information on how to fix these issues. It is clear that not everyone has access to technology. The Department of Education is distributing iPads for free for students grades K-12 who are in need of a device to engage in remote learning for the time being. You can find access to these services here.

Khan Academy

Standardized testing can be stressful, especially managing preparations from home. Khan Academy has provided free video lectures on multiple subjects to help with this. These lectures are tailored to ages 2 to 18 and daily schedules are provided to navigate learning from home. The daily schedules outline what a day learning from home can look like for a child, with five hours worth of work ideas and all of the learning resources being offered by Khan Academy! These daily schedules are also broken up by grade level.

Access to Khan Academy and video content can be found here.

New York Public Library Resources

The New York Public Library has many online resources, organized by age, not only for children but for parents and educators as well. If you do not have an NYPL library card you can apply through this site which provides you with further instructions: https://www.nypl.org/books-music-movies/ebookcentral/simplye

SimplyE is NYPL’s free app you can download on a smart phone which makes it easier to access the online resources available. It may take a few hours after applying for an NYPL library card to have access to their online resources, which include ebooks and audiobooks.

Another online resource available from 2-11 PM is daily virtual tutoring for students from early elementary through high school grades. Outside of these hours there is video content available 24 hours a day which can help with homework and more. The tutoring is offered in both English and Spanish, and covers all core subjects as well as ESL. Test prep for SAT, PSAT, ACT and more is also available for high school students.
